Witch Broom Pretzel Snacks
Pretzel-stick broomsticks with string-cheese bristles, tied with a chive. Two ingredients, about $0.25 a broom.
The fastest party snack on the list. Line them up on a board and they look like a witch convention.
A quick tip for parents
Read a favorite witch bedtime story while you snack. A little routine makes Halloween night feel cozy instead of overwhelming.
Allergens and swaps
Allergy-friendly note (Teal Pumpkin Project): A teal pumpkin on the porch tells trick-or-treaters you have non-food treats or allergy-safe options. Contains wheat and milk. Use gluten-free pretzels and dairy-free cheese sticks to swap.
Ingredients
- 12 pretzel sticks
- 4 sticks string cheese (each cut into 3 pieces)
- 12 chives (optional, for tying)
Method
- Cut each string cheese piece into fringe on one end with a butter knife, leaving the top intact.
- Push a pretzel stick into the solid top of each cheese piece.
- Tie a chive around the top for a "broom tie" if you like.
- Serve right away or chill up to 4 hours.
Notes from the kitchen
- Fringing cheese with a butter knife is a safe first knife job for kids 5 and up.
- A bag of store-brand pretzel sticks makes several batches.
Can I use other cheese?
Any firm cheese cut into a rectangle and fringed works.
